CM urges FM to grant funds to develop critical social sectors

NEW DELHI, June 18: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu called on Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman here on Tuesday and sought financial assistance on development of health and education, both critical social sectors, after apprising her of financial status of the state.

Khandu, accompanied by DyCM Chowna Mein and Arunachal East MP Tapir Gao, also sought financial assistance for upgradation and development of Tomo Riba Institute of Health & Medical Science (TRIHMS), including making its tertiary care cancer treatment centre operational, establishment of ayurveda medical college, Pharmacy College and for establishment of AIIMS, like autonomous institution.

On education sector, he sought assistance for meeting the infrastructure gap as central Govt schemes on education had helped state Govt only to a certain extent. Piece meal approach for infrastructure upgradation has not helped much, he said and urged for transformational intervention and not incremental one by extending a special financial package, he said.

Besides education and health sectors, he also sought intervention for massive development thrust, especially in insurgency infested areas of Tirap, Changlang and Longding districts and for development of Indo-China border areas and fund for construction of Green Field Airport at Hollongi stating that Arunachal is the only state in India without an airport in its state capital.

The CM advocated help for financial inclusion to benefit farmers, unemployed youths, senior citizens and all needy people to foster economic resilience and make financial services at affordable cost to all individuals and businesses in the state. (CMO)
